Ron Culler, CompTIA faculty member and CTO of Secure Designs, held a series of security discussions during CompTIA's ChannelCon 2014

1. Companies can avoid data breaches by implementing endpoint security

Many of the most recent data breaches are the result of sloppy or non-existent endpoint security, Culler said. For example, Target could have avoided Black Friday non-compliance if the firm had exercised tighter control over its ecosystem and have adopted more stringent measures to prevent the exploitation. Other threats to protect corporate data come from an increase in the reliability of outsourcing services and enterprise mobility, which tracks piracy for losses or external sources open. Control who has access to the system is an ideal way to remove unwanted eyes access certain information.

2. Encryption needs to be layered to prevent data collection over Wi-Fi

Even the most inexperienced hacker can learn how to access company data with just watching YouTube videos or reading through the forum. Companies need to be prepared in case of an attack by layers of encryption methods and creating more barriers to entry so that it is as difficult as possible for intruders to access sensitive payment information and other sensitive customer data .

3. Your customer’s business is also your business

When a solution provider is hired to protect the assets of another company, the quality of protection it offers is a direct reflection of your business. As companies seek solutions providers as their security expert, it is important to understand the business and know their responsibilities, distribution channels and product regulatory requirements. Strengthening its knowledge of the customer's business, solution providers may be better equipped to understand the types of security measures to keep your data safe business customers.

4. Security is not a one-time purchase; it needs to be dynamic

Many companies mistakenly think of security as a one-time purchase; however, the development of a security strategy in evolution should be the No. 1 priority for businesses in order to avoid infringement. As threats are always changing and evolving, so even if the security company to ensure that some policies do not become obsolete and exposed. Culler urged the participants to think of security as a cycle: You have to grow and change throughout the life of society.

5. Solution providers should think of security as a business enabler

Safety is not only a way to keep intruders out of important business data; It 'also a way of showing strength solution providers in the market and to cultivate trust among customers. The most successful solution providers will build your brand and reputation of reliability of their security measures and use this success to attract new customers. Security should be a facilitator of business, not just a defensive measure to keep your data safe.
